Heart’s Ann Wilson Reflects On Dolly Parton’s Decision To Withdraw From Rock Hall Nomination

During her latest interview with The Chuck Shute Podcast, Heart’s Ann Wilson commented on country singer Dolly Parton‘s announcement about her withdrawal from the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nomination.

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced the nominees for this year which drew great attention and received criticism from some artists on the list. The Class of 2022 can consist of Judas Priest, Eminem, DEVO, Duran Duran, Rage Against the Machine, and Eurythmics, with many more if they get enough votes. The fans have the right to vote this year and the committee, and they can use it until April 29.

Dolly Parton was one of them, but she decided to withdraw by sharing a statement on her official Instagram account. The ‘Joleene’ singer highlighted that she didn’t release a rock album, although she wished to do it so much. According to her, it won’t be fair to split votes as a country musician, and Parton added that this nomination encouraged her to work on a rock album. After her statement, many musicians supported Parton’s decision, such as Dee Snider and Richie Faulkner.

Recently, Ann Wilson joined them by saying that Parton’s response to her nomination was perfect. The Heart icon stated that the cool thing about Dolly Parton is that she has always been a country singer. Wilson also criticized the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and said it’s becoming less and less rock after giving place to country, pop, and rap musicians who became influential in their genres.

Wilson said in her interview that:

“I thought that her response was beautiful. She doesn’t need to freeload on another genre. She’s totally cool for doing that, as far as I’m concerned. The Rock Hall is becoming less and less about rock, and I just thought that her response was perfect. She maybe has always talked about making a rock and roll album, but I don’t know. She is country; she’s one hundred percent through and through the country. That’s what’s so cool about her. She’s just one of a kind.”
