Halestorm frontwoman Lzzy Hale recently praised Wolfgang Van Halen and his potential impact on rock music. She shared her thoughts in an interview with Louder Sound.
Hale’s comments focused on Wolfgang’s character and his approach to carrying on his father’s musical legacy. She also discussed her experience visiting the legendary 5150 Studios.
“He [Wolfgang Van Halen] is a humble kid, there’s none of that ‘I’m a rock star’s kid’ stuff,” Hale said. “I’ve met quite a few of those guys that think that they’re better than everybody else because their dad was famous. That’s never been Wolfie.”
She also described a memorable visit to Eddie Van Halen’s famous recording studio.
“He took us to 5150 [Studios] and it still had all the tapes up there,” she continued. “There was Jump, the old analogue tapes, everything marked, everything organized to a T. And we’re like: ‘Are we supposed to be in here?’ He’s like: ‘Oh yeah, dad won’t mind’ I’m like, this isn’t just anybody’s dad’s garage!”
Hale expressed strong confidence in Wolfgang’s future contributions to rock music.
“I think he and his band are gonna save rock ‘n’ roll,” she said. “He’s a part of that small club of rock stars that are like: ‘Hey, you are more than welcome to be a part of this cool thing that we’re doing, but we don’t need you, we’re gonna do it anyway.'”
Wolfgang’s dedication to rock music extends beyond his family legacy. His recent musical endeavors and touring commitments provide evidence of this commitment.
WDHA FM reported that Wolfgang and his band Mammoth have recently released a new energetic single titled “The End.” The song features a dynamic blend of shredding guitar and melody. The song’s video, directed by Robert Rodriguez, includes cameos from notable artists like Slash and Myles Kennedy. This highlights Wolfgang’s strong connections in the rock community and his rising influence.
Wolfgang’s approach to music creation reflects his commitment to live performance and audience engagement. WRIF noted that Wolfgang believes creating music is fun but sharing it with an enthusiastic crowd is the ultimate reward. This reflects his dedication to engaging rock audiences directly.
Despite his father’s monumental legacy, Wolfgang has developed his own relationship with Van Halen’s music. Louder Sound revealed that Wolfgang has stated he doesn’t listen to Van Halen anymore. This suggests his focus on forging his own musical path rather than living in the shadow of his father’s achievements.
This independent approach aligns with Hale’s observations about Wolfgang’s humble character and his determination to succeed on his own merits. It positions him as a genuine force in contemporary rock music rather than simply trading on his famous surname.
