In a recent interview, former CSNY member Graham Nash opened up about the loss of his earlier bandmate, David Crosby. Nash was asked what it meant for him to lose Crosby. Having expected Crosby to leave them earlier, he responded:

“It was insanely sad for me. He was one of my very best friends for over 50 years. I feel very sad for his wife, Jan, and his son Django, of course. With all due respect, we were expecting Crosby to leave us much earlier than this.”

The singer then revealed why he did not want to see the ‘cruel’ side of his bandmate, and explained further:

“Because he had not taken care of himself during his life, of course. So it was incredibly sad for me. But I make a choice to only remember the good stuff. I don’t want to remember that bad side of David Crosby, that cruel side. I’d rather just remember the good music that we made and the good times we had together.”

Later, he was asked if he, Stephen Stills, and Neil Young would be able to play and work without him. He replied:

“I’m not sure about that. I mean, we talk. Of course we talk, particularly since David passed. But I don’t know. It won’t be the same without Crosby. It just won’t be the same. It could be something different if we ever did, but it will never be the same.”

The two had been close friends for many years. However, a few years before Crosby passed away, they had a beef about a romantic relationship Neil Young had. Reportedly, Crosby made some mocking comments about the relationship, thus being the breaking point for Nash. Despite his apology, Nash expressed his tantrum in an interview:

“Right now, I don’t want anything to do with Crosby at all. It’s just that simple. In my world there will never, ever be a Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young record and there will never be another Crosby, Stills, and Nash record or show.”

The two knew Crosby was on the edge of death, so they wanted to make up before it was too late. He explained the situation in another interview with AARP:

“The fact is that we were getting a little closer at the end. He had sent me a voicemail saying that he wanted to talk to apologize, and could we set up a time to talk. I emailed him back and said, ‘Okay, call me at eleven o’clock tomorrow your time, which is two o’clock on the East Coast.’ He never called, and then he was gone.”

After Crosby passed away this year on January 18, Nash focused on his solo career, and recently released his new album ‘Now’. You can listen to the album here.
