Godsmack frontman Sully Erna has publicly discussed his romantic relationship with Dorothy Martin, the lead singer of the rock band Dorothy, for the first time in an interview with Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk.

The interview revealed details about both their personal connection and their musical collaboration. Erna explained how their shared experiences brought them together both romantically and creatively.

“Me and her connected originally because we both went through some history and with bad relationships,” Erna said. “A lot of people kind of go through these things, but we have the opportunity to kind of voice it and vent it through our art.”

The couple channeled their experiences into their collaborative work, particularly on a song that emerged from their shared journey.

“So we both kind of had gone through a similar situation that just felt really appropriate to kind of write about it and set it free,” he continued. “And the song, ‘Set Me Free,’ became obvious. And it’s just a down-and-dirty good hard rock song. And it’s not a ballad, it’s nothing sappy. It’s actually the opposite.”

Dorothy Martin also shared her feelings about their relationship during the same interview.

“I love this man. He’s such a good, solid man. I feel safe with him,” she said. “And we had a wonderful friendship for months and months. I’ve never laughed so much in my life. My face hurts.”

The couple’s relationship has been developing alongside their professional collaboration. Both personal and musical milestones have marked their journey together.

The Rock Revival reported that the couple attended Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler-hosted Jam for Janie party together in February. This made one of their first public appearances as a couple. The event served as an early indication of their growing relationship before this official confirmation.

Blabbermouth noted that the 58-year-old Erna and 40-year-old Martin recently collaborated in the studio ahead of their joint tour kicking off next month. This professional partnership has allowed them to blend their personal connection with their musical careers. They are creating new material that reflects their shared experiences.

The timing of their relationship reveal coincides with Dorothy Martin’s recent birthday celebration earlier this month. Blabbermouth mentioned this detail. Erna described their collaborative track “Set Me Free” as a “banger” that will be released soon. This suggests fans can expect to hear the musical fruits of their partnership in the near future.

Their upcoming joint tour represents both a professional milestone and a personal journey. The couple prepares to share the stage while navigating their newly public relationship. The tour will give fans their first opportunity to witness the chemistry between the two artists in a live setting.
