The Dead Daisies’ Glenn Hughes recently shared why he departed from the band. The frontman sat down with Rock of Nations with Dave Kinchen and Shane McEachern podcast to discuss live performances with pre-recorded tracks, retirement, and more.

While chatting about vocals, Hughes was asked if he would stop performing if he didn’t feel like he could go on more with his vocals. After explaining he doesn’t want to get sick and works diligently every day to keep himself in a good space, the rocker shared his thoughts about retirement:

“For me to — the word ‘retire’… When I’m done… I don’t think I’m ever going to be done, but for me to slow down, it’s really slowing down. If I stop, I won’t be able to start again. I can’t take six months off.”

He then revealed the reason for his departure from The Dead Daisies:

“The Dead Daisies wanted to take six months off, and I refused. That’s why I kept going. So I’m going to keep going until a moment in time when I’m going, ‘I need to slow down.’ I’ve got a lot of energy for an older chap, so I’m going to keep doing this while I’m in good head space, good vocal space, and good shape.”

Hughes described his times with The Dead Daisies as nothing but great, although ‘it was never going to be forever.’ The rocker made it clear that he can’t see himself making music with The Dead Daisies and is yearning to do solo touring again, also sharing that his other band, Black Country Communion will be the last band he records with.

After the rocker departed from The Dead Daisies, he and Joe Bonamassa continued to focus on Black Country Communion to work on the band’s fifth album.

The bassist is now on tour to celebrate the 50th year of Deep Purple’s ‘Burn.’ See the tour dates here.
