Glenn Frey’s Son Deacon Leaves The Eagles To ‘Forge His Own Path’
The Eagles shared an announcement about the band’s late guitarist and vocalist Glenn Frey’s son, Deacon, who replaced his father’s duties on their official Facebook account. The band members stated that Deacon decided to leave the band to start his unique journey as a musician.
Glenn Frey had struggled with his severe and various health problems, rheumatoid arthritis, pneumonia, and acute ulcerative colitis before his death on January 18, 2016, at 67. This news devasted his family, friends, bandmates, and fans worldwide, who spent their lives listening to his extraordinary voice. Also, they started to wonder whether The Eagles would continue to perform in the absence of Frey.
Shortly after, the band revealed that Frey’s son Deacon and Vince Gill would share the late musician’s duties in the band, so they started touring with new members. The band’s latest Hotel California 2020 Tour began on September 27, 2019, in Las Vegas and is planned to end in London on June 26, 2022. Before their concert on April 19, 2022, The Eagles shared a statement about Deacon Frey’s leaving the band.
The band highlighted that the younger Frey devoted himself to the group after his father, which was a tough duty for a young man like him, considering Glenn’s legacy. The remaining members highlighted that the singer wanted to ‘forge his own path,’ and they will always support Deacon as his family. They said the musician can always join them if he wants to do and asked their fans to wish Deacon the best for his new journey.
The Eagles’ Facebook post read:
“Deacon Frey has devoted the past four and a half years to carry on his father’s legacy and, after some weeks of reflection, he now feels that it is time for him to forge his own path. We understand completely, and we support him in whatever he wishes to pursue in the years ahead. In the wake of his dad’s demise, Deacon, at age 24, did an extraordinary thing by stepping from relative anonymity into the very public world of his father’s long, illustrious career.
We are grateful to Deacon for his admirable efforts, and we wish him well as he charts his future. Deacon’s Eagles Family will always be here to surround him with love, support, and goodwill, and he is always welcome to join us on stage at any future concerts if he desires. We hope our fans will join us in wishing Deacon the very best as he moves into the next phase of his career.”
Deacon Frey didn’t release a statement about the departure from The Eagles through his social media accounts yet. According to the band’s spokesperson, who shared details with Variety, they will not hire another musician during their ongoing tour; his bandmates will perform his parts instead.
