Modern Drummer readers voted Slipknot’s Eloy Casagrande the best metal drummer in the 2024 Readers’ Poll.

“I’m glad that I was nominated as the best metal drummer of 2024 by Modern Drummer magazine,” the drummer shared in a statement on Instagram. “Thank everyone who voted for me. I’d like you to know that I’m not the best one.”

He continued, “There is no good or bad in music or in arts, but I’m lucky enough to I have people that support me and who like what I do. Thank you, Modern Drummer, for the service you do for the drumming community. Thank you Slipknot and the maggots for trusting me. See you all on the road.”

After splitting with Jay Weinberg in November 2023, Slipknot hinted at a new drummer nine months ago with a photo of a broken drumstick and the caption ‘Rehearsal.’

The band said they parted with Weinberg for creative reasons. Jay later said he was ‘heartbroken and blindsided’ by the decision. He has now joined Suicidal Tendencies and Infectious Grooves.

Casagrande suddenly left Sepultura 10 months ago, just before rehearsals for the band’s 40th-anniversary farewell tour. “It’s an exciting moment. Unthinkable until then. There is nothing to lose, there is nothing to win. There is just living. We’re here as one. Thank you Slipknot for trusting me. Thanks all the maggots and fans around the world. See you on the road. Here comes more pain,” Eloy said after joining Slipknot.

Corey Taylor also talked about why they chose Casagrande, explaining, “I think we just kinda went, ‘You know what? Let’s just tell people.’ It was really as simple as that, you know? Eloy was the only one who was brave enough to get in the room with us. There were a handful of other people that we were looking at, and none of them wanted to jam with us.”

“They just wanted to do their own thing and send it in — a very TikTok thing, you know? And we were like, ‘That’s not the way this works, dude.’ Eloy rearranged his schedule to come see us. He was so hungry to jam and just see what would happen that we were immediately impressed just by that alone,” the singer also added.

Slipknot’s tour to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Slipknot’s self-titled debut album will continue in Amsterdam on December 5.
