Gene Simmons Shares The Only Condition He Gets Together With Paul Stanley
KISS bassist Gene Simmons recently sat down with Goldmine for an interview and reflected on his friendships, particularly with Paul Stanley. Simmons stated that there was one condition that the KISS icons get together.
The friendship between Gene Simmons and Paul Stanley traces back to when they met each other for the first time via a mutual musician friend. Although they knew they were both interested in music, they initially didn’t like each other much on a personal level. While Stanley detested Simmons’ arrogant attitude, the bassist was impressed with the singer’s musical talent.
Despite the first negative impressions, the two found themselves in creative collaboration, and over the years, they managed to keep their relationship stable. In an interview he joined a few weeks ago, Paul Stanley admitted that they don’t spend much time with Simmons outside the KISS tours since they share different interests. In a recent appearance, the bassist also confirmed what his bandmate said about the dynamics of their relationship.
Gene Simmons revealed that he only gets together with Paul Stanley when they have to do something about the band because they don’t like hanging out much outside the business. The bassist also said he didn’t have friends because he has always prioritized his wishes and not others. Apparently, his lack of friendships doesn’t affect the musician negatively since he enjoys living in solitude.
Here is what Simmons said about his thoughts on friendships:
“Even today as I sit here, other than Paul, and we only get together when we do stuff for the band… How do I say this without sounding inhuman? I don’t have friends. Yeah, if friends mean, ‘Gee, I don’t know what I’m going to do this afternoon. Hey, you want to come over and hang out?’ I’m more interested in what I want to do, and I don’t want to pretend that I’m interested in what you want to do because I am not.”
Paul Stanley seems like the only friend Gene Simmons enjoys spending time with. Despite their highly different characters, the duo has managed to handle each other for all these years. Although they are not best friends, they always know they will be there for each other when needed.
