Gene Simmons recently shared his first public statement after almost falling off the stage during a KISS show in Brazil, clearing the air about his health and disclosing why he had to perform sitting on a chair via Twitter.

When you mention the name Simmons to an average rock fan, there’s no doubt that they can easily imagine the rocker in his iconic stage persona, the Demon, standing tall and covered by his signature makeup, rocking some basslines while fake blood slips through his mouth. It’s quite the showmanship, is it?

So, it might puzzle anyone to see the good old Demon sitting in a chair, appearing exhausted and fed up while trying his best to handle his bass riffs. Sounds surreal? Well, this happened quite recently, as Gene felt like he couldn’t handle the show while performing in Manaus, Brazil, and asked his road crew for a chair.

The rocker performed like that for minutes, sitting down and trying his best to go along with the gig, before singer Paul Stanley intervened and asked the audience for a brief break to see what was happening with Simmons. The band returned to the stage only a few minutes after Stanley stopped the show and carried on performing as if nothing had happened.

Still, fans were worried about the bassist’s health, and after footage of him exhaustedly sitting in a chair made its way to the media, Gene decided to release a statement. The rocker tweeted that he was just dehydrated and had no other health struggles and continued by discussing how their five-minute break really helped him out, and he was fine after drinking some water and cooling off.

Gene’s statement followed:

“[Hey] everybody, thanks for the good wishes. I’m fine. Yesterday at Manaus Stadium in Brazil, I experienced weakness because of dehydration. We stopped for about five minutes, I drank some water, and then all was well. Nothing serious. Tomorrow, Bogota Stadium. See you there.”

He also posted another update on Twitter by saying:

“Ok, kids. Not a big deal. Thanks for your kind wishes. Last night we played Amazon Jungle Stadium/Brazil. Humidity and temperature were sky-high. I was dehydrated and was forced to sit for a song. We got back on stage in 5 minutes & finished the show.”

It seems that Brazilian heat forced the Demon to surrender, as Simmons had to take a seat to continue to show; luckily, he had no major troubles as he quickly overcame the dehydration and carried on with the show.
