KISS’ Gene Simmons thinks the two original members don’t have the DNA to be in the band.

Appearing in a new interview with USA Today, Simmons discussed their final tour and whether or not they will have any guests for the sake of the last tour. When the host offered that some fans might be waiting for a reunion with Ace Frehley and Peter Criss, the rocker touched on ‘unprofessional behavior.’ Making it clear the band members still love them, he discussed the two’s contributions to the band:

“Ace and Peter had been in and out of band three times. We love and cherish them and they will always be part of the KISS family and we’ve had many differences about unprofessional behavior. KISS has always been a machine. We show up on time and we tried on three occasions over three decades to bring them back into the band and it always wound up the same.”

The rocker revealed why he thinks the two do not have the DNA to continue with the band:

“And what do you do with Tommy and Eric who have been loyal and professional and never turned their back on the band? Now, I do know, KISS would not have happened without Ace and Peter. There’s no question of the chemistry. But I don’t think KISS would have survived with Ace and Peter. Not everyone has the DNA. It’s hard damn work to stick through it for 50 years.”

Well, it seems they did have the DNA back then.

Frehley and Criss Refused to Do an Encore

Apparently, the return of the two former members was not out of the question at all. Simmons acknowledged that Kiss wouldn’t have happened without the two, and the older fans would like to see Frehley and Criss for the final shows. As a result, Simmons contacted them only to be refused by both.

The chances of that happening now appear slim, as Simmons has claimed multiple offers were made and declined.

Will There Be Any Guests?

Well, since this is the band’s last show, the band received multiple offers from different bands to open for their last show. So, who will be opening for Kiss? No one. But in Simmons’ words, even if the world’s biggest band offered to open for them, he would refuse. And here is why:

“Other bands called and said, ‘Please let us open the last show.’ You would recognize all of them, and it’s very humbling, but the answer is no. Will there be any special guests? No. If The Beatles reformed, I would not want to see anyone else on that stage. I want to see my band.”

So it’s safe to say that the band will be performing with no openers and only themselves.
