Gene Simmons And Flea React To Naomi Osaka’s Decision To Protect Her Mental Health

KISS bassist Gene Simmons and Red Hot Chili Peppers’ bassist Flea shared posts on their official Twitter pages showing support to famous tennis player Naomi Osaka who recently faced a fine of $10,000 by the French Open after her decision to not do press at the tournament.

As many of you might know, Naomi Osaka has been ranked number 1 by the WTA, and she is the first Asian player to hold the title in singles as well as being a four-time Grand Slam singles champion in addition to being the reigning champion at the US Open and the Australian Open. She also became the first woman to win successive Grand Slam singles titles since the extraordinary tennis player Serena Williams in 2015.

There is no doubt that Osaka is a brilliant young tennis player who rules the court for the past few years, therefore, it didn’t surprise her fans when she beat Patricia Maria Tig in straight sets in the first round of the French Open. However, the reigning player shared a post on her official Twitter page stating that she would not be doing press during the French Open, pushing authorities to respect her mental health status.

Here is what Osaka said in her post:

“I’ve often felt that people have no regard for athletes’ mental health and this rings true whenever I see a press conference or partake in one. We’re often sat there and asked questions that we’ve been asked multiple times before or asked questions that bring doubt into our minds and I’m just not going to subject myself to people that doubt me.”

However, due to the fact that press conferences are a requirement for all players and avoiding this obligation can result in up to $20,000 in fines, the French Open decided to fine Naomi Osaka $15,000 for missing mandatory press interviews after her victory. After this decision, fans have been showing support to the talented tennis player, stating that her preference shouldn’t be judged let alone being fined.

Recently, Gene Simmons shared a post on his official Twitter page joining those who showed support to Naomi Osaka with a simple statement in addition to reposting a piece of news by ABC News revealing the official statement by the French Open that stressed the importance of the Grand Slam regulations.

Here is what Simmons said:

I support Naomi Osaka.”

Right after KISS bassist’s tweet, Red Hot Chili Peppers icon Flea also shared a post on his official Twitter page rooting for the fined tennis player proving once again that he’s on the side of the freedom of expression and understanding of an individual’s needs, especially when it comes to mental health issues.

Here is what Flea tweeted:
