The Dark Angel drummer was discussing the band’s next steps after the release of their first new album in 34 years. Hoglan expressed his confidence about the timeline for upcoming announcements and new material.

“Before the end of the year,” Hoglan said. “And if I am incorrect, then I’m only going to be incorrect by a month or two. And it’s very, very exciting news.”

Hoglan pointed out that many listeners are not yet familiar with Dark Angel’s recent output. “There’s a lot of people that are completely unaware of the last album,” he explained. “The majority of folks are unaware that Dark Angel even has an album out. And so for those who are unfamiliar with Dark Angel, we’re gonna punch you in the face.”

He added that longtime fans of the band will also be impressed by what is coming. “And for those who are familiar with Dark Angel’s recent history, you’re gonna be going, ‘Wait a minute. What? Holy moly. Way to do it this time, Dark Angel. Way to go.’ That’s what I feel. And so I’m really excited. And boy, we are on the absolute cusp of being able to announce some stuff.”

Hoglan made these comments as Dark Angel prepares to follow up on their comeback album. The band’s anticipation for upcoming news shows how close the announcement appears to be.

Dark Angel released their first new album in 34 years, “Extinction Level Event”, on September 5, 2025 via Reversed Records. The album was recorded at Armoury Studios in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, and was produced and engineered by Rob Shallcross and mixed by Mike Fraser. The title track was written by guitarist Jim Durkin a decade before his death in 2023, with the surviving members deciding to continue the band in his memory.

Hoglan had spent several years working to craft material worthy of Dark Angel’s legacy. He wrote more than 10 new songs over three months and drew from jams he and Durkin had made together. The band entered the studio in July 2024 to record the album. A second single from the album, “Circular Firing Squad”, was released in June 2025.

Dark Angel reunited a second time in 2013 after breaking up in 1992 and reuniting briefly from 2002 to 2005. The band debuted two new songs, “Circular Firing Squad” and the title track “Extinction Level Event”, during a performance in Buenos Aires in August 2025. They embarked on “The Extinction Level Event” North American Tour in fall 2025, their first domestic tour in over three decades, running from September 5, 2025 in San Diego, CA to October 16, 2025 in Los Angeles, CA.
