Mötley Crüe bassist Nikki Sixx has opened up about the key to keeping his marriage strong while on the road. He shared his thoughts in a post on Facebook.
The post came after his wife, Courtney Sixx, visited him during Mötley Crüe’s newly started tour. Sixx used the occasion to reflect on the challenges of maintaining a relationship while touring and shared the one rule that has kept their marriage going for nearly 16 years.
“The truth of the matter is that rock ‘n’ roll can be hard on relationships—mostly because of the distance,” Sixx said. “My wife and I have been doing this dance for almost 16 years, and one of our golden rules is simple: we never go more than two weeks without seeing each other.”
Sixx also expressed his joy at having his family with him on the road during the visit.
“It’s so great having Courtney and Ruby out here with me,” he continued. “We got to spend some real family time and the band had a kick ass show tonight.”
The comments came as Mötley Crüe’s tour got underway, with Courtney and their daughter Ruby joining Sixx on the road for the occasion.
Nikki and Courtney married in March 2014 at the Greystone Mansion in Los Angeles after three years together. The wedding featured a gothic rock and French countryside theme. Nikki wore a bandana and silver necklace alongside a traditional black suit, while Courtney wore a strapless gown.
The couple welcomed their daughter, Ruby Sixx, on July 27, 2019. Ruby is Nikki’s fifth child overall and the first he shares with Courtney.
Courtney has spoken about the importance of brief getaways as a way to protect their marriage, particularly when Nikki is on the road. She has emphasized that nurturing their relationship is something both of them actively prioritize — not just for themselves, but for the benefit of their family. The two-week rule Nikki described reflects this broader philosophy. For Nikki, who has been open about the difficulties of his past relationships, the stability he has found with Courtney represents a deliberate and ongoing effort to make things work.
