From Motley Crue Icon Nikki Sixx’s Diary: ‘I Think This May Be My Last Day On Earth’
Mötley Crüe’s Nikki Sixx posted a photo on his Instagram, including one of his old diary entries that featured a heartbreaking note about his experience with life and death.
During his successful career with Mötley Crüe, Sixx developed a heroin addiction. In the late 1980s, Sixx used more and more drugs over time to the point where he could not maintain self-control. Moreover, on December 23, 1987, Sixx overdosed on a lethal dosage of heroin and was officially declared clinically dead for two minutes.
Fortunately, Nikki Sixx got clean from using drugs. Back on September 8, 2007, he published an autobiography titled ‘The Heroin Diaries: A Year in the Life of a Shattered Rock Star’ in which he talked about his past drug dependency. The book is a 413-page collection of diary entries, shedding light on Sixx’s struggles.
In a 2009 interview by Clash, Nikki Sixx talked about his struggle with heroin. The musician revealed to Clash that he had overdosed half a dozen times in the past. Sixx then recalled his near-death experience and described it as a turning point for him. As of today, he has been clean for 20 years.
Nikki Sixx told Clash:
“I’ve overdosed about half a dozen times. Someone usually snapped me out of it, but the last time I was pretty much gone. That was the turning point for me. I’ve been clean for 20 years now. My drug problem was a private hell.”
According to a recent Instagram post, Sixx reflected his ‘turning point’ in a diary entry as well. In the post, he shared a photograph of his diary entry from 2010. Considering what he wrote on the page, Nikki Sixx’s tragic overdose experience increased his awareness and made him understand the value of life.
Nikki Sixx said in the caption of his Instagram post:
“2010 diary entry. Things you stumble across packing/unpacking.”
His 2010 diary entry read:
“Your perspective on life is your life!
Sometimes I think that this may be my last day on earth. I ask myself at these moments if I have done my best. Have I done everything I can think of to make my childrens’ life better? Have I?”
