Recently speaking to Scott Itter of Dr. Music, Tesla’s guitarist Frank Hannon disclosed a significant pact within the band concerning lead vocalist Jeff Keith’s potential inability to perform.

When asked about the possibility of temporarily replacing Keith if he were unable to perform, the musician replied by saying:

“It’s kind of sacred ground with Tesla. We’ve already decided that when Jeff can’t sing, we won’t get a replacement. Historically, in the 40 years that we’ve been doing Tesla, we probably can count on one or two hands at the most how many shows we’ve had to cancel due to him being sick. For years, we prided ourselves in never canceling a show.”

The Resilience And Dedication Of Jeff Keith

He continued, highlighting the rarity of show cancellations in Tesla’s 40-year history:

“There’s only been a few, and rightfully so, ’cause he just could not do it. And bless his heart, he tried, but when the human voice gets sick, you just can’t do it. There’s been a rare occasion, maybe, where I’ve covered and would sing to get through the show, but no, not really. I mean, I can pull off some songs that I do on my own, but when it comes to a Tesla show, Jeff Keith is the singer.”

The Importance Of Keith To Tesla

This perspective was reinforced in a prior discussion on SiriusXM’s Trunk Nation With Eddie Trunk, where Hannon conveyed optimism about Tesla’s future as long as Keith remains able to lead with his vocals. He noted:

“Well, I’ve heard numbers of years being tossed around in conversations with Brian Wheat — like, five years. Who knows? As long as Jeff Keith can sing these songs, we’re gonna continue to do it. And as long as we can find ways to play these songs to help him sing them, we’re gonna keep on going.”

Looking ahead, Tesla is set to captivate fans with their ‘Tesla: The Las Vegas Takeover’ at the House Of Blues inside Mandalay Bay Resort And Casino Las Vegas in 2024. Additionally, the band recently released the standalone single ‘Time To Rock!’ and the track ‘Cold Blue Steel.’
