Former Journey singer Jeff Scott Soto has broken his silence on current frontman Arnel Pineda’s live performance. He offered a show of support amid criticism over Pineda’s vocals during the band’s Final Frontier tour.

Pineda had shared a video from the tour, expressing gratitude to fans following a performance in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

“On behalf of Journey and the crew behind us, thank you so much Fort Wayne Indiana for the wonderful evening you have shared with us tonight,” Pineda wrote in the caption. “Sometimes goodbye is the hardest word to say but God willing, we will meet and party again together.”

Soto, who fronted Journey between 2006 and 2007, responded directly to Pineda’s post with a message of solidarity.

“The music world stands by you brother, your soul emotes love and positivity, we feel and embrace it!!” Soto commented. “Godspeed to this current finish line whenever it will be.”

Pineda replied warmly to Soto’s show of support, writing: “I look up to you brother!”

The exchange comes as Pineda has faced scrutiny from some fans over his vocal performances during Journey’s ongoing Final Frontier tour. Support from a fellow former frontman adds a notable dimension to the conversation surrounding Pineda’s place in the band’s legacy.

Pineda joined Journey in 2007 after being discovered on YouTube, where his covers of the band’s songs caught the attention of guitarist Neal Schon. He has since become the band’s longest-serving lead vocalist, helping sustain Journey’s arena-level presence through multiple tours and lineup changes.

The Final Frontier Tour launched on February 28, 2026, in Hershey, Pennsylvania. Billed as Journey’s farewell run, it spans more than 60 North American cities and has since been extended with an additional 40 dates for the fall leg, culminating in a hometown finale in San Francisco.

Soto’s own chapter with Journey was brief but significant. He stepped in as lead vocalist in 2006 and departed in 2007, just before Pineda was brought on board. His public backing of Pineda reflects a sense of camaraderie among those who have stood at the front of one of rock’s most enduring bands.

Despite criticism from some corners of the fanbase, Journey’s Final Frontier Tour has continued to draw packed arenas across North America. For Pineda, the support from peers like Soto serves as a reminder that his contributions to the band’s legacy remain widely respected within the music world.
