Former I Prevail singer Brian Burkheiser has addressed his departure from the band through a series of statements shared on Instagram.
Burkheiser’s comments focused on clarifying his exit from the metalcore band. He emphasized that there is no animosity between him and his former bandmates.
“I will change the music industry forever,” Burkheiser said. “There are no rules to this shit. You can be whatever the f*ck you wanna be. But if you don’t live your truth, don’t go blaming anyone else.”
He explained his decision to leave was motivated by personal and family considerations.
“Someone taught me that this week and I have run with that mindset ever since,” he continued. “I had to do this for my family. I couldn’t take this anymore. I am meant to be here.”
Burkheiser addressed speculation about potential conflicts within the band. He made it clear that he maintains respect for his former colleagues.
“Every single member of I Prevail is a good person,” he said. “We were all just kids. None of us knew what the f*ck we were doing. It all happened so fast. There is no beef. I love every single one of those guys whether they know it or not.”
He acknowledged difficulties during his time with the band. Burkheiser emphasized his understanding of the situation.
“But yeah, sh*t did get tough along the way and I do think that I didn’t deserve how things went down,” he said. “But it doesn’t mean they are bad people. We’re all just going thru sh*t. Everyone is trying to feed the family.”
He concluded with a personal message to his former bandmate Eric Vanlerberghe. He expressed his continued support and friendship.
“Whether you know it or not, I am proud of you Eric,” Burkheiser said. “You went through a lot of things the world doesn’t know about. I want to see you I miss you.”
Burkheiser’s departure marks a significant transition for the Michigan-based metalcore band after nearly a decade of collaboration and success.
Blunt Magazine reported that the split comes after years of Burkheiser trading screams, stage dives, and viral success with I Prevail. The band formed in 2013 and quickly gained recognition in the metalcore scene. Burkheiser served as one of the founding members alongside Eric Vanlerberghe.
AXS TV confirmed that I Prevail has announced they will continue touring as planned, including major festival slots across the US and Europe. This decision signals no slowdown for the band despite losing one of its key vocalists. Eric Vanlerberghe is expected to step up as the primary frontman.
The band’s commitment to moving forward is further demonstrated by their upcoming tour schedule. AXS TV revealed that I Prevail is preparing for the high-profile “Summer of Loud” tour alongside metalcore heavyweights like Beartooth, Killswitch Engage, and Parkway Drive. The tour begins June 21 in Florida.
Designer Tale noted that fans appear supportive of the new direction. The band has hinted at new music on the horizon, promising powerful riffs and poignant lyrics. This suggests that I Prevail’s creative momentum will continue despite the significant personnel change. The remaining members are determined to maintain their position in the metalcore scene.
