Nightwish and Floor Jansen have decided to split after careful consideration; the band and singer announced in statements shared on Instagram. Both parties said the separation was a mutual agreement made with their future ambitions in mind.
The band explained the reasoning behind the split and wished Jansen well in her future work. Jansen responded with her own statement about what comes next for her music career.
Nightwish’s announcement reads: “Nightwish and Floor Jansen part ways. After careful consideration, we have, in mutual agreement, decided to part ways. This decision is necessary and important to us and our future ambitions.”
“Thus, we will now pursue those goals in our own separate ways. We wish each other nothing but the very best on our respective artistic journeys. For you, dear listener, and indeed for us, this marks the end of a truly great voyage.”
Floor Jansen also addressed the split in her own statement. “Endings create new beginnings, and even though it was a hard decision to make, I believe there is a bright musical journey ahead of me. I invite you to follow along on this path, as you were with me in all the great years before. Thank you for your support through the rollercoasters of life.”
“My solo career will now get all of my attention and gives my new upcoming album Hytress (out 2027) and the tour all space to grow. Hope to meet you on the road again in a near and happy future. With love and respect, Floor.”
The parting comes as both Nightwish and Jansen move forward with separate artistic directions. The split marks a significant change for the band and opens a new chapter for Jansen’s solo work.
Jansen joined Nightwish in 2012 as a replacement for Anette Olzon during the Imaginaerum world tour and became a full member in 2013. During her 14-year tenure with the band, she sang on three studio albums: Endless Forms Most Beautiful (2015), Human. :II: Nature. (2020) and Yesterwynde (2024). Her arrival marked stability for Nightwish after previous lineup changes, and her first commercial release with the band was the 2013 live album Showtime, Storytime, which documented a triumphant show at Wacken Open Air in front of an 85,000-strong crowd.
Before Nightwish, Jansen was the lead vocalist of symphonic metal band After Forever from 1997 to their disbanding in 2009. She joined that band at age 16 and later formed ReVamp, with which she has released two albums. Her experience with After Forever gave her a strong foundation in the symphonic metal genre before she entered Nightwish.
Nightwish announced plans to step away from performing after their last show at Norway’s Tons Of Rock festival in June 2023. In August, Jansen told Sonic Seducer there was no activity scheduled and no communication about when things would resume. Jansen released her debut solo album, Paragon, on March 24, 2023, and has been developing her solo work in parallel with her band duties.
Jansen’s second solo album, Hytress, is set for release on January 15, 2027 through REVAMP Music/Warner Music, with a full European and South American tour to follow in 2027. The single “Bring Me Silence” continues her solo output, following the previously released single “Run,” which arrived in June. Nightwish will enter the studio in 2027 to record a new album, though the band has not announced a replacement vocalist or provided details about who will sing on the new material.
