Korn bassist Fieldy recently addressed his departure from the band and clarified his current status. He shared his perspective in an interview with Tatch Creative.

The musician explained his decision to step away from touring during the COVID-19 pandemic. He also reflected on his nearly three-decade career with the band.

“COVID happened. That’s it. I’m like, ‘I’m not going out there.’ That’s what happened, ’cause it was new,” Fieldy said. “Now. I’m like… The whole time — I mean, I didn’t get vaccinated or anything — but when you reflect on it, that’s what happened. They’re like, ‘We’re going to Florida and all this.’ And I’m like, ‘I’m not going to get vaccinated.’ I’m not going. I go, ‘People, this is weird right now.'”

He continued to discuss how the time away gave him perspective on his career and future plans.

“But I mean that’s kind of what happened. But it gave me time to sit, and once you sit, you can reflect and you’re like, you’re kind of just waiting you know to what’s next, ’cause I don’t know what the rest of this day is going to bring,” he said. “I’m just on fire for whatever, whatever is ready.”

Fieldy made a statement that left fans uncertain about his future involvement regarding his current relationship with the band.

“I’m retired from Korn today, but we’ll see what the day brings tomorrow,” he said.

The bassist also reflected positively on his time with the nu-metal pioneers. He expressed gratitude for the experience.

“Man, I look back at my life and like, you know, almost 30 years with Korn, that was a blast, man. I mean, it was… I can’t explain it,” he said. “It’s like you’re going on you’re going to the ultimate [thrill]… It’s not easy. But it is a blast. I don’t look back going, ‘That sucked.'”

“I mean, I could look at it and complain, but how are you going to complain? That was everything everybody dreams of. And I got to go almost like a vet. I put in 30 years and now here I am. You know? it’s like I’m cool with that,” he concluded.

The comments provide clarity on Fieldy’s initial departure. They also leave the door open for potential future involvement with Korn.

Fieldy’s recent statements come nearly three years after his official departure from the band. This has left fans wondering about his potential return.

Loudwire reported that Fieldy officially announced his hiatus from Korn on June 21, 2021. He cited personal issues and bad habits that caused tension with bandmates. In his original statement, the bassist acknowledged falling back on destructive behaviors that affected his relationships within the band.

The band responded with understanding and support for their longtime member’s decision. Loudwire noted that Korn released a statement saying, “We love and support our brother, Fieldy. Health and family always come first.” This supportive response demonstrated the band’s commitment to prioritizing their member’s wellbeing over touring obligations.

Korn has continued performing with various fill-in musicians during Fieldy’s absence. Scene Daddy documented that the band has previously used substitute bassists including Ryan Martinie in 2012 and Tye Trujillo in 2017 for earlier temporary absences. This shows their ability to adapt when needed.

The bassist’s current ambiguous stance on his future with Korn reflects the complex nature of his relationship with the band after nearly three decades together. His comments suggest that while he considers himself retired today, he remains open to possibilities. This leaves fans hopeful for a potential reunion.
