Elton John Shares His Gratitude For ‘It’s A Sin’ Ranking Number 1 On The Charts
Elton John recently posted a photo on his Instagram account and celebrated the mainstream success of his latest collaboration, the proceeds of which are going to the Elton John AIDS Foundation and thanked everyone for showing their support and ‘helping thousands of people living with HIV & AIDS.’
Elton John is without a doubt one of the most popular and accomplished rockstars of all time. With a career that spans almost six decades, the Rocketman has contributed not only to the culture of rock music but has also managed to make a change in the world. His sensitivity towards crucial issues and fight to raise awareness were applauded by Queen Elizabeth II, who knighted Elton John in 1998.
Sir Elton John established the Elton John AIDS Foundation (EJAF) back in 1992. To this day, it is considered to be one of the most powerful independent AIDS organizations, and its mission is to put an end to the deadly AIDS epidemic. One of the most well-known mottos of the EJAF is ‘No more discrimination. No more HIV infections. No more AIDS deaths. No matter who or where you are.’
Recently, Elton John collaborated with Years & Years’ Olly Alexander in the remaking of Pet Shop Boys’ ‘It’s a Sin.’ The song was originally released back in 1987 but following the Vatican’s refusal to bless gay marriages in mid-March because they ‘are a sin,’ the rockstar was apparently encouraged to bring this iconic song back.
Elton John and Olly Alexander debuted the new version of ‘It’s a Sin’ at the 2021 Brit Awards on May 11, 2021. Their performance was applauded by millions all around the world and after the live performance the studio recording of the track was released, the proceedings of which got the EJAF.
In his recent post, Elton John announced that ‘It’s a Sin’ has ranked Number 1 on the Big Top 40 and expressed his gratitude. He thanked his fans and followers for their support and gave them credit for supporting ‘the lifesaving work’ of EJAf which helps thousands of people who are battling HIV and AIDS.
Here’s what Elton John said in the caption of his post:
“Absolutely thrilled that ‘It’s A Sin’ has landed at Number 1 on the Big Top 40! Thanks to everyone for supporting the lifesaving work of the Elton John AIDS Foundation and helping thousands of people living with HIV & AIDS.”
