Casagrande was asked about the drum recording and the writing process for the new record. He kept the exact number of songs under wraps but confirmed the band has plenty of material ready.

“I just finished recording the drums. All the drums, they are recorded. They are done. And I’m just here hanging out,” Casagrande said. He explained that the band began work at the end of 2025, when he and guitarist Jim Root started trading riffs and drum ideas.

“Yesterday was the last day?” Craig Reynolds said. “No, I finished like 10 days ago or a week ago,” Casagrande replied. “How many songs?” Reynolds asked again. “I cannot tell you that,” the drummer said. “No, I cannot tell you. I can tell you that we have a lot of songs.”

“What’s the writing process been like for this upcoming Slipknot album?” Reynolds asked again.

“Um, I don’t know, man. It’s been crazy. Actually we started the process since the last year, at the end of 25. Me and Jim Root started exchanging some riffs, some drum bits, you know, so we started the process back there. And I think for the first time, it was February or March, we played together, we stayed in a studio together, so the process started with me and Jim and Clown in his studio just jamming. So, we would jam all day long at least for three or four hours a day and record everything that we could. And then listen to what we played together and and try to find those special moments that we felt connected. So, the process started like that, you know.”

Casagrande completed the drum tracking for Slipknot’s next studio album roughly a week before the interview. The band’s writing process shows how the project came together from its earliest stages.

Casagrande joined Slipknot in 2024 after leaving Sepultura, taking the place of Jay Weinberg. The new album marks his first full-length recording with the band and also Slipknot’s first proper studio album without longtime turntablist Sid Wilson, whose departure was confirmed in August 2025. The record follows 2022’s “The End, So Far” and will be produced by Matt Wallace, who has worked with Faith No More and Mushroomhead.

The band worked with producer Matt Wallace and amassed a large number of song arrangements during the writing and recording process. Casagrande’s completion of drum tracking represents a major milestone for the project, with the other band members continuing their work on the remaining elements of the album.

The new Slipknot album is set for release on August 9. This will be the band’s first studio record with Casagrande, who has quickly established himself as an important part of the group’s creative direction alongside longtime members like Jim Root.
