Eddie Vedder On Battling Covid, ‘I Saw My Life Flash In Front Of My Eyes’
Pearl Jam frontman Eddie Vedder reflected on his coronavirus experience during a recent show at the YouTube Theater in Los Angeles. Following his daughter Olivia’s performance, the rocker expressed how grateful he is to be in front of an audience after seeing his life flashing before his eyes.
Eddie Vedder released his third solo studio album entitled ‘Earthling‘ on February 11, 2022. The record generally received favorable reviews from both music critics and fans. It also reached no. 29 on US Billboard 200 and peaked at no. 1 on US Top Rock Albums. After releasing his solo album, Vedder was supposed to hit the road in support of his new record.
Unfortunately, the musician contracted COVID earlier this year, which hindered him from touring. After the delay, Vedder was eventually able to get back on stage under much healthier conditions. However, his recovery process was quite challenging, as he revealed during a recent show at the YouTube Theater.
Following the live performance of his daughter of the new song named ‘My Father’s Daughter,’ Eddie Vedder wanted to speak to the audience before moving on to the next song. The musician stated that he saw his life flashing before his eyes while fighting against COVID. Moreover, the disease was pretty severe, which is why he felt grateful and honored to play for his fans once again.
After his daughter’s performance, Vedder said:
“I just wanted her to take a quick second to look at this because it’s very rare. It’s incredible. I got the COVID right before we were supposed to start practicing, about five or six weeks ago, and literally saw my life flash in front of my eyes. I had done some very good things for my body, and I’ve also had a lot of fun.
I’ve done some things that… I don’t want to get into the details; just use your imagination! But it felt pretty serious. And to get through that and then be back in a room like this, facing this many people facing this way, listening to us… really, truly, it’s been a gift and an honor. Thanks for listening; we’re so grateful.”
