Duran Duran’s John Taylor Picks Victoria De Angelis As The Most Important Electric Guitarist

3 Min Read

In a recent interview with Rolling Stone, Duran Duran’s John Taylor named Måneskin’s Victoria De Angelis as the most important electric bassist at the moment. About working with Victoria as a feature on Duran Duran’s new album ‘DANSE MACABRE,’ Taylor said:

“She’s probably the most important electric bassist out there right now. I met a couple of the guys from Måneskin at a party and they said, ‘you’ve got to meet our bass player.’ She’s such a dynamo! I was like ‘what inspired you?’ and Vic said, ‘Tina Weymouth.’ So when Psycho Killer made the cut for the album, I thought, ‘I’m gonna ask her if she’d like to have a bass-off!’”

In the same interview, Victoria De Angelis talked about how she met Taylor and their cover of ‘Psycho Killer’ with Duran Duran. She said:

“It’s such a wild honour to get asked by John Taylor and the guys to play on their album. I met John at a party, and we immediately bonded talking about music and bass. I told him Tina Weymouth was my absolute pinnacle of cool, attitude and incredible musicianship all rolled into one, and he told me he also started playing bass inspired by her and she was one of his music idols. I then got a call from John months later saying he was working on a cover of Psycho Killer, and he wanted to ask me first about playing on it.”

The cover features former Duran Duran guitarist Andy Taylor as well.

Duran Duran Covers Billie Eilish’s ‘Bury A Friend’

Following Duran Duran’s recent surprise to their fans by adopting a goth style on their new album, their cover of the Billie Eilish song ‘bury a friend’ is up next. Frontman Simon Le Bon spoke to Rolling Stones in October about their new album.

When asked when exactly he was able to settle on the gothic style, he said:

“For me, the real sparks were doing the covers of (Billie Eilish’s) ‘bury a friend’ and (The Rolling Stones’s) ‘Paint It, Black,’ because I felt I was able to really to take those songs in a different direction from what they originally were.”

Speaking more in-depth about the Billie Eilish cover, Le Bon continued:

“John was the one who presented that song. I listened to it, and it is extraordinary. It is so perfect. My first thought was, ‘I’m never going to be able to do anything that even approaches the brilliance of this.’ But then I listened to the way that our version was developing, and it was a little more instrumental — obviously — and it wasn’t going to be such a vocal-centric song.”
