DragonForce’s lead singer Marc Hudson was notably absent from the band’s first performance with new co-vocalist Alissa White-Gluz at the Welcome To Rockville festival in Daytona Beach, Florida. This prompted the band to release an official statement on Instagram.
The band’s statement addressed Hudson’s absence and explained the circumstances behind his decision to step back from live performances.
“This hasn’t been a sudden decision, but something he [Marc Hudson] has been managing behind the scenes for quite some time,” DragonForce announced. “After careful consideration, it’s become clear that taking a little break is the best move for his long-term health and recovery.”
The band also reassured fans about upcoming performances and future collaborations.
“We know many of you were looking forward to seeing him on stage again with Alissa, but don’t worry,” they continued. “We have new music with Marc and Alissa in the works. In the meantime, Billy [Wilkins, touring guitarist/vocalist] will be stepping in to handle the next two live performances. Thank you for all your love and support.”
DragonForce introduces Alissa White-Gluz as their second lead vocalist. Billy Wilkins will temporarily cover Hudson’s vocal duties for upcoming shows.
Hudson’s absence marks a significant moment for the power metal band. This situation stems from ongoing health challenges that have affected the vocalist’s ability to perform.
DragonForce’s Instagram statement revealed that Hudson’s absence at Rockville on May 9, 2026, was due to ongoing recovery from a 2025 vocal cord injury sustained during touring. This injury has required careful management and has ultimately led to his decision to take a temporary break from live performances to focus on his long-term vocal health.
Hudson has been DragonForce’s frontman since 2011, when he replaced original vocalist ZP Theart. DragonForce’s official website confirmed that Hudson has fronted the band on six studio albums, including The Power Within (2012), Warp Speed Heroes (2024), and Grammy-nominated Extreme Power Metal (2024). His tenure with the band has spanned over a decade of intensive touring and recording.
The addition of White-Gluz represents a strategic move for DragonForce during Hudson’s recovery period. Blabbermouth.net reported that DragonForce announced Alissa White-Gluz as co-vocalist in March 2026 alongside Warp Speed Heroes tour dates. White-Gluz brings extensive experience to the role, having served as the lead vocalist of symphonic metal band Arch Enemy since 2014. She has released albums like Will to Power (2017) and Deceivers (2022).
The collaboration between Hudson and White-Gluz promises to bring new dimensions to DragonForce’s sound. The band confirmed that new music featuring both vocalists is already in development. This partnership allows the band to continue their touring commitments while ensuring Hudson has the necessary time to recover fully from his vocal issues.
