Songwriter and producer Desmond Child collaborated with Alice Cooper on the best-selling album of his career, ‘Trash’ in 1989. In a recent interview, Child expressed his desire to work with Cooper again, talking about his past successes and how the same success was not achieved after Cooper stopped working with him. In the interview, talking about the album ‘Trash’ they worked on together, Child said:

“He went from selling 15,000 records to 4 and a half million records, you know, with the record that we made made and all the juice that we brought with it.”

Comparing the low sales figures of his later album ‘Hey Stoopid,’ Child attributed Cooper’s reluctance to work with him to then-producer Bob Ezrin, whom he claimed was jealous of him. Child continued:

“Bob convinced them not to hire me, so then Bob co-produced the album with this British producer Peter Collins and they started writing songs with Alice that were kind of like Desmand Child sound alikes with a lot of modulations on. All this but the songs, you know, it wasn’t successful, and the label dropped him after selling four and a half million records because that record only sold like 85,000 records. How do you go from four and a half million to 85 thousand, and you know, to this day, I still haven’t been hired back.”

Alice Cooper Performed With Desmond Child After Many Years

On June 27, 2022, Desmond Child performed in a special concert called ‘Desmond Child Rocks The Parthenon’ at the Roman theater Odeon Herodes Atticus in Athens, with Cooper and Child on stage together after many years.
