Ritchie Blackmore is the leader of the two legendary heavy metal bands Deep Purple and Rainbow. He founded Deep Purple in 1968, and most importantly, the band was considered one of the leaders of heavy metal. Deep Purple was often named one of the ‘unholy trinity of British hard rock and heavy metal’ alongside Led Zeppelin and Black Sabbath.
Blackmore quit Deep Purple in 1975 to form his band Rainbow. Initially, the band was called Ritchie Blackmore’s Rainbow, but they decided to leave it at Rainbow because it was too long. One of the original founding members was Ronnie James Dio who only stuck with the band for 2 years.
