Deen Castronovo, the drummer of Journey, recently shared his experiences with back problems during his time with the band. He discussed his initial struggles with getting surgery and how he eventually found relief through the medical facility where he underwent the procedure. The drummer said:

“Being on the road so close to 35 years, stuff starts to take its toll; stuff starts to weigh up, weigh down, I’m getting older and stuff. I noticed about two and a half years ago, I was really having pain in 2018. And due to Covid, I couldn’t get surgery. I mean, I would get it scheduled, and they would cancel it, and schedule, and cancel. I was prescribed pain medication to leave it with the pain because I couldn’t get the surgery because of Covid and the lockdowns.”

The drummer, who had been dealing with the pain for years, declared how he found out about the facility:

“I heard about BioSpine from Jonathan Cain, the keyboardist from Journey. He had a procedure done a couple years back and said: ‘Man, you need to check these guys out.’ So, instead, I got on the website; he sent me the website, the link. I looked at it, and I went, ‘Okay, let’s give it a try to see how fast I can get in.’ We called them up and they instantly got me in. I flew down from Oregon to Orlando, got in, and had the consultation, and we were set.”

He then, mentioning how long it took for him to heal, continued:

“I had the surgery on September 23rd, and, man, within three weeks, I was up and playing again, it was unbelievable. Recovery was really simple, I had some physical therapy, and within a month, I was playing my first show back with Journey. It was so good to be off of pain medication and finally, just be great again, be able to play without that shearing pain down my legs. Man, that was torture.”

The drummer had to undergo two spinal surgeries, revealing the first one with the statement of departure from his former band, The Dead Daisies, which he joined two years after quitting Journey in 2015. Just a few months before his second surgery, Castronovo rejoined Journey and has been touring with the band ever since.
