The R.E.M. Song Featuring Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder
The rock ‘n’ roll world is filled with musical collaborations, and it’s common for artists to work on songs together. Even though the rock scene might seem filled to the brim with musicians, it is a small world where artists bump into each other in studios or while doing gigs, so it is easy to get acquainted with people. In fact, meeting up and becoming friends with a musician sometimes also encourages collaborations.
There have been unfortunate instances where potential collaborations have ended with disputes and feuds. However, there have also been times when two bands have come together, and the combination of their unique ideas has led to the creation of something original. One of those smooth and unproblematic experiences was when R.E.M. decided to reach out to their old friend Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder to record his vocals for their 2011 album, ‘Collapse Into Now.’
The R.E.M. Track That Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder Made A Guest Appearance On
R.E.M. had decided to break their pattern of only recording sharp, short, and fast songs in their 2008 album ‘Accelerate.’ For their 2011 album ‘Collapse into Now,’ the trio decided to take a different approach where they tried to pick the best songs rather than focusing on the tempo.
The album was more personal than any of their other works, as they took a break from their political side and wanted to share a universal message with their fans. The band members pushed themselves even further by reaching out to people they knew or considered friends to collaborate on the album, and one of those people was Pearl Jam’s Eddie Vedder.
The members of R.E.M. have been friends with Pearl Jam and its frontman for quite a long time, so when the trio asked their old pal to contribute to their next album, it was a no-brainer. Vedder made vocal contributions to the track ‘It Happened Today,’ which became one of the album’s singles.
The frontman had joined the trio onstage at several R.E.M. performances, and their relationship had flourished throughout the years. So, it wasn’t surprising when Vedder became the one who inducted the band into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2007.
