Dee Snider recently supported Paul Stanley‘s views about gender identity and affirmation, which led his fanbase to divide into two polar groups on Twitter while Snider himself faced a show cancelation.
Stanley had also recently divided Twitter by posting a statement about gender affirmation and advocating against sex reassignment surgeries in children. This stirred the pot enough that most users started picking sides, and the Twisted Sister frontman was among those who made clear where they stood on all this.
Snider replied to Paul’s tweet by supporting his statement, noting how he was glad his parents didn’t jump to any ‘rash conclusions’ whenever he used to ‘feel pretty’ or feminine as a child. His fans then started to debate whether they supported Dee, causing the singer to detail his support for the KISS frontman further.
After a criticizing tweet suggested Snider would prefer a ‘traditional’ Christian upbringing, where parents would abuse their children for having long hair or wearing makeup, the rocker replied by saying how the user knew nothing about him and that he never received any harsh criticism or abuse for wearing makeup or having long hair in his Christian household.
He then answered another tweet questioning whether Dee actually supported Paul and shared his views; the singer confirmed his stance once again by joking about how he had to turn in his LGBTQIA+ ally membership card now, only to state he might need it later on.
After these tweets, San Francisco Pride Parade & Celebration community announced that they had dropped Snider off his scheduled performance in the celebrations, canceling the rocker’s show to condemn his support for Paul’s statement and recent tweets.
Dee Snider supported Stanley as follows:
“You know what? There was a time where I ‘felt pretty’ too. Glad my parents didn’t jump to any rash conclusions. Well said, Paul Stanley.”
Upon seeing this tweet, a fan stated:
“I guess Dee Snider would have preferred tradition American Christianity, where you beat the sh*t out of your kids for long hair [and] makeup.”
Snider quickly replied:
“Jesus… or should I call you Christ. Do you know anything about me? Born [and] raised a Christian choirboy, mom was my Sunday school teacher, Dad was a cop/vet hardass. I was never beaten for having long hair [and] wearing makeup. Not saying some aren’t. But you’re a f*cking idiot.”
Then when a fan expressed disbelief on Dee’s stance on the matter and asked if all these were true, Dee replied:
“Apparently so. I guess I’ll just need to turn in my LGBTQIA+ membership card… Oh wait! I’m going to need it in a big way – to be annouced.”
While some fans supported Snider and praised him for sharing what he had to say and not holding back, others seemed to be disappointed and furious that the singer supported Paul and shared the KISS rocker’s views, which led to a new controversy on Dee’s behalf and face a show cancelation.
