Dead And Company Confirms John Mayer Won’t Perform In Mexico Shows Due To His COVID Diagnosis

Dead And Company recently released a statement on their official Instagram account to announce that their guitarist John Mayer tested positive for COVID-19. The band said that Mayer won’t perform at their upcoming festival, and after the bad news, they revealed the new artists that joined the line-up.
Following their latest Dead And Company’s 2021 tour, the band announced their Playing in the Sand Festival appearance as the headliner, which will take place between January 7 -10 and 13-16 in Riviera Cancún. The supporting acts include Margo Price, The Main Squeeze, Celisse, LP Giobbi, and many more. The bands and musicians’ fans who were looking forward to their performances got very excited and happy about the festival.
However, Dead and Company gave the bad news about the lead guitarist John Mayer contracting COVID-19 and stated that he will not attend the festival’s first part for that reason. The current line-up includes Mickey Hart, Bob Weir, Jeff Chimenti, Oteil Burbridge, Luvrz Lane, and Tom Hamilton. In addition, the band’s Instagram account shared Bob Weir’s words about the festival, who said that they will definitely have fun although they sadly have to continue without their dear brother John Mayer.
Many fans, especially those who have already bought tickets for the upcoming festival, got sad and disappointed about Mayer’s current health status. Some of them expressed their hope that Mayer might attend Playing in the Sand Festival’s second part if he successfully recovers from the disease. Dead And Company will probably keep sharing updates to give details about the guitarist’s health status and whether he will be able to join the rest of the show or not.
The band’s IG post read:
“Today, just prior to leaving for Mexico, per his physician, John Mayer tested positive for COVID-19 and will be unable to perform at the upcoming Playing in the Sand event in Riviera Cancun January 7-10. The weekend will now feature Dos Hermanos con Amigos: Mickey Hart and Bob Weir with Jeff Chimenti and Oteil Burbridge, joined by Luvrz Lane, Tom Hamilton, and including special guests and sit-ins including Margo Price and others.
‘We came down here to have fun. Unfortunately, some of our brothers cannot make it but the fun is what we’re going to have’ – Bobby Weir.
In these unprecedented times, fans should expect many rare and different tunes.”
