David Lee Roth Trades Rock Fans For Executives With Corporate Gig

On September 20, David Lee Roth took the stage at the Oracle CloudWorld 2023 event in Las Vegas, delivering Van Halen classics to an audience of managers.

The frontman performed at the Venetian Hotel & Casino with the all-star covers band Royal Machines. The show also featured the former Jane’s Addiction bassist Chris Chaney, Billy Morrison, Sugar Ray’s Mark McGrath, Dexter Holland, Steve Stevens, Donovan Leitch, Tommy Clufetos, Paul Trudeau, Shirley Manson, and Run-DMC’s Darryl McDaniels.

DLR had previously delivered a show at a corporate event for Home Depot sales managers held at the Michelob Ultra Arena in Mandalay Bay, Las Vegas, on March 23, 2023. He again joined Royal Machines for a special live rendition of Van Halen’s ‘Panama.’

The singer had declared his retirement in 2021, but he hasn’t exited the music scene. He has kept uploading videos on YouTube showing him dancing to various songs. He also didn’t completely shut the door on the possibility of new live performances. Nearly a year after his initial statement, he revealed to Fox News:

“There’s always a tomorrow for a singer, not so much for a trombone player these days. How many times did Rocky retire? Seven. I think No. 3 was my favorite? How many times did Rambo have to come out of retirement in order to make the sequel?”

So, his March gig marked his first public appearance after these retirement statements. As he performed again recently for a corporate event, the fans might be hopeful for other future shows by the former Van Halen singer.
