Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth shared a cover of the band’s most popular song, ‘Jump.’ But it’s based on another cover of the song.
Solo artist Alex Melton recorded an ‘alt-pop indie rock’ version of the song about a month ago. Melton is known for his cover videos on YouTube. But these covers usually include a change in the songs’ original genres. The musician wrote in the caption of his own version of ‘Jump’:
“We all know the iconic synth line, but I had never really given this song a proper listen all the way through until I decided to do this cover. I loved the idea of slowing the verses waaay down and letting each line breathe, while keeping the upbeat pace of the pre-chorus intact. I love the layers that pop in and out, and I’m really digging my new shooting methods that allow me to do longer takes with video. Hope you enjoy!”
The Van Halen rocker released his version of the cover a month later on March 19.
What Do Fans Think About The Song

In short, fans loved both versions.
In Melton’s version, Van Halen fans praised the song and one commenter even said the cover should be on the radio.
Another wrote:
This is my favorite way to hear a cover… updating a great song to a more current aesthetic. That’s exactly what Van Halen did back in the day on their early days with songs like ‘Dancing in the Street,’ ‘Pretty Woman,’ and ‘You’re No Good.'”
Similar to the comments on Melton’s version, Roth’s version also got many praising comments. A user wrote:
“Super cool that Dave is supporting Alex Melton’s cover!”
Another said:
“This is ridiculously good and the footage is such a great companion piece.”
