Former Van Halen frontman David Lee Roth is set to share the stage with drummer Alex Van Halen for the first time since the band’s final concert in 2015.
The event takes place on July 30 in Fargo, North Dakota. It will bring the two legendary bandmates together alongside renowned contemporary artist Robert Vargas for a special TEDxFargo talk.
TEDxFargo described the upcoming appearance in a statement:
“Three icons. One stage. One conversation you won’t want to miss. Just added, this Thursday, at TEDxFargo CHARGE, singer David Lee Roth will join legendary drummer Alex Van Halen and renowned contemporary artist Robert Vargas for a special TEDxFargo talk!”
The reunion comes after David Lee Roth canceled some of his solo shows due to low ticket sales. The TEDxFargo event marks the first known public appearance of the two former Van Halen bandmates together since the band’s farewell concert over a decade ago.
The timing of the Fargo appearance adds significant weight to what might otherwise be a routine speaking engagement. It arrives at a turbulent moment for Roth personally and signals a notable shift in the dynamic between two men who have spent much of the past decade apart.
Roth’s 2026 touring plans unraveled quickly. He kicked off a US tour in April, but multiple summer dates were abruptly pulled without public explanation. He subsequently removed all but one live date from his website — a scheduled appearance in Sturgis, South Dakota on August 7 — leaving fans and the industry wondering about the state of his solo career.
The cancellations drew attention from an unexpected corner. Sammy Hagar, Roth’s longtime rival and fellow former Van Halen vocalist, publicly extended an olive branch. He sent words of support and invited Roth to join him during his upcoming Las Vegas residency. The gesture marked a striking moment of goodwill between two figures whose feud had defined much of Van Halen’s complicated legacy.
Meanwhile, Alex Van Halen had already been speaking warmly about his former bandmate in the weeks leading up to the Fargo announcement. He described Roth as the “secret ingredient” behind classic Van Halen’s appeal. He called the original lineup’s chemistry something that could never be duplicated and stated that the Roth era defined what Van Halen truly was.
Those comments set the stage for the TEDxFargo reunion. After years of limited public interaction, the Fargo event represents the first known moment where Roth and Alex Van Halen will share a platform together — not as performers, but as two figures reflecting on a legacy that continues to resonate more than a decade after Van Halen played its final show.
