Former Megadeth bassist David Ellefson shared insights about his current career status in a recent interview with 101 WRIF.
Ellefson addressed his numerous projects since leaving Megadeth. He emphasized that passion, not necessity, drives his continued work. “I literally don’t ever have to work another day in my life. I’m fine financially. I’m good,” he stated.
“I do this purely for fun and for joy,” Ellefson continued. “And it’s great that my phone rings and people still want to hang out with me and still want to invite me over to their party.”
His active involvement in the music industry persists, despite his comfortable financial position.
Bass Magazine revealed Ellefson’s latest venture – the 2025 Bass Warrior Tour across Europe. The tour features his solo material and Megadeth classics, performed alongside guitarist Andy Martongelli.
The veteran bassist explores new musical territories through diverse collaborations. Blabbermouth reported that his band Kings of Thrash, featuring Jeff Young, has scheduled an extensive Summer/Fall 2025 U.S. tour.
Kings of Thrash has evolved beyond performing classic material. The band plans to release original compositions under a new name, showing Ellefson’s creative evolution.
His current activities highlight his enduring passion for music. His diverse project portfolio stems from artistic fulfillment rather than financial needs.
