David Coverdale Shares How His Late Ex-Wife’s Beauty Helped Whitesnake Become Famous

Whitesnake frontman David Coverdale expressed his feelings about his ex-wife Tawny Kitaen’s death during his recent interview with Talkin’ Rock With Meltdown and emphasized Kitaen’s contribution to Whitesnake’s popularity and success.

After David Coverdale got divorced from Julia Borkowski, he started dating Tawny Kitaen, a young girl who dreamed of becoming an actress and model. Kitaen and Coverdale pursued a passionate relationship, collaborated for Whitesnake’s hit records, and tied the knot in 1989. Unfortunately, their happiness couldn’t last long as they separated in 1991.

Tawny Kitaen’s stunning and iconic performances in ‘Here I Go Again,’ ‘Is This Love,’ and ‘Still of the Night’ music videos were highly appreciated. According to her ex-husband Coverdale, her beauty initially drew people’s attention, so fans started listening to the band’s songs. He stated that Tawny Kitaen’s beauty contributed to the band’s successful career.

Therefore, even though Kitaen died on May 7, 2021, at the age of 59 due to dilated cardiomyopathy, Whitesnake fans will never forget her. David Coverdale talked about her unexpected death, saying that he was shocked and sad upon hearing the news. He added that he has lost most of his family members and friends but knows that he must move on with his life.

Coverdale talked about Kitaen saying:

“As you know, Tawny is synonymous with Whitesnake, with MTV. This iconic, amazing beauty brought so much attention to my music. Once you go, ‘Oh my God, she’s gorgeous,’ you go, ‘Wow, the songs aren’t bad either.’

Yeah, so that was a shock — there was no question. I didn’t see that one coming, but then, sadly, I’m losing a lot of people. At this age, it’s so weird the number of people I know who are checking out, privately or professionally. It’s pretty crazy, but it’s onwards and forwards — it has to be my philosophy.”
