Talking Heads reunited for a new interview.
The band appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, discussing the 40th anniversary of their concert film, ‘Stop Making Sense.’ Amid the conversation, the frontman, David Bryne, shared his belief that the ‘rock art’ label was an insult to the band.
The ‘Art Rock’ Label Was Never a Compliment

The band has been referred to as art rock, artsy punk, experimental rock, and new wave many times. Among all the genres, it was art rock that offended the band the most.
During the recent interview, Bryne was asked about his thoughts on the term, to which he replied it was not a compliment to the band and said the following:
“We kinda were, but I sort of realized it was not meant as a compliment. It implied that we were snooty elites who didn’t really mean what we were doing, and it was just an art project. And we were also called punk rockers, we liked a lot of those bands, but we didn’t feel like we fit in with that genre either.”
Will The Band Ever Reunite?

The band has reunited several times for events, interviews, and more but hasn’t been on stage since they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall Of Fame in 1999. Toward the end of the show, the host tried to persuade the band to play a song live. After a few seconds of silence, the bassist Tina Weymouth commented:
“You’ll be still waiting.”
Although Chris Frantz is looking forward to a reunion, when he asked Byrne, the frontman wanted him never to ask about it again. Additionally, during their appearance at the Toronto International Film Festival in September, Weymouth made it clear that they were just savoring the moment.
