Dave Navarro took to Instagram to talk about the secret album with Eric Avery named ‘Deconstruction’ post-Jane’s Addiction.

“REISSUE! In 1994, Eric Avery and I released a very little-known album produced by Ronnie S. Champagne called ‘Deconstruction,'” the guitarist wrote in his post. “This was right after the first end of Jane’s.”

He went on to say, “It was never really promoted and definitely had NO singles. It quickly went away and ultimately went out of print. The album was very experimental and followed no rules and really had no structured songs.”

“Eric sang and played bass, I was on guitar and did a few backup vocals and Michael Murphy from Lions and Ghosts played drums. We never did a live show but the exploration sonically was freeing and inspired. Now, all these years later this album has been added to some streaming outlets,” Navarro revealed about the record.

The rocker added, “I think that some of the magic between Eric and I musically is most definitely evident on this project. I’d say it’s more cinematic and soundscapey than traditional song-oriented. Perhaps that’s why it was a tough listen for some.”

“Having revisited it after all these years I believe this record contains some of my favorite recorded playing and interplay between E’s bass and my guitar. I am very happy this has been re-released and is available for streaming. If you care to, give it a listen. (Special appearances from Gibby Haynes of Butthole Surfers and Pinky Turzo),” Dave concluded.

After Jane’s Addiction broke up in 1991, Avery and Navarro started a one-time project called Deconstruction. They asked drummer Stephen Perkins to join, but he chose Porno for Pyros instead.

Deconstruction released an album in 1994, but it didn’t sell well and got mixed reviews. They made a video for ‘L.A. Song’ but never toured because Avery didn’t want to after the stress with Jane’s Addiction. The band broke up soon after. Avery went on to form Polar Bear, and Navarro joined Red Hot Chili Peppers.
