Dave Grohl’s daughter Violet Grohl recently shared the unusual inspiration behind her latest single “595” from her upcoming debut album “Be Sweet to Me.” She revealed how a NSFW t-shirt her famous father attempted to hide led to new music, as discussed on The Evening Show with Dan O’Connell.

The young musician explained how an old sex phone line advertisement shirt became the creative spark for her heavy, desert rock-influenced track.

“‘595′ was inspired by a t-shirt that I have. It’s an old sex phoneline ad, and I got it on Etsy a while ago,” Violet Grohl said. “And my dad actually opened up my package and saw the shirt, and then hid it in his studio for a couple months.”

She described the hunt for her missing shirt and how it eventually became central to her songwriting process.

“I scoured the house looking for this shirt, because it said it was delivered, and then I found it in a box in his studio,” she continued. “But we went into the studio, and we had this kind of idea for a heavy, kind of desert rocky, heavier kind of song… and the shirt was just such a main focus that day.”

The specific details on the vintage advertisement provided the perfect lyrical material for the track.

“It says ‘$5.95 per call,’ and there were so many little lines on the shirt that were just so perfect,” she explained. “And we were like, ‘This is kind of incredible. We should write a song about this!'”

This creative breakthrough marks a significant milestone in Violet Grohl’s emerging musical career. She prepares to step into the spotlight with her own artistic identity.

Rock Sound reported that “Be Sweet to Me” will be released on May 29 via Auroura Records / Republic Records / Island Records UK. The album represents Violet’s first major solo venture, establishing her as an artist in her own right beyond her famous lineage.

The single “595” showcases Violet’s gritty lo-fi grunge sound. It is accompanied by a music video directed by Nikki Milan Houston. DIY Magazine noted that the album was recorded alongside producer Justin Raisen at his Los Angeles home studio. This created an intimate creative environment that allowed for experimental songwriting approaches.

The collaboration with Justin Raisen, known for his work with various alternative and indie artists, has helped shape Violet’s distinctive sound. The recording process in Los Angeles provided the perfect backdrop for developing the desert rock influences that characterize tracks like “595.”

Brooklyn Vegan highlighted that the debut album announcement has generated significant buzz in the music industry. Fans are eager to hear how Violet Grohl will carve out her own musical path. The unconventional inspiration behind “595” demonstrates her willingness to find creative material in unexpected places, suggesting a promising artistic future ahead.
