Dave Grohl Says Foo Fighters Didn’t Want To Play ‘Best Of You’ After Prince’s Cover

During a recent interview with Tara Hitchcock, Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl talked about whether he has any favorite cover of Foo Fighters songs. He replied that Prince’s ‘Best of You’ cover was so good that they couldn’t top it.

Foo Fighters has been promoting their upcoming supernatural horror-comedy film, ‘Studio 666’ featuring the band members these days. The film is scheduled to be released on February 25, 2022, and it will explore what happens to the band members when they move into a mansion in Encino, California, to record their much anticipated tenth album. During their recent interview, Foo Fighters revealed several unknown facts both about the movie and their career.

After talking about the film a little bit, the interviewer asked the band members whether there is anybody who has done an incredible job covering one of their songs. Then, Rami Jaffee stepped in and recalled Prince’s cover of ‘Best of You,’ which has an interesting story behind it. The song was featured in the band’s fifth studio album, ‘In Your Honor,’ released in 2005. Prince came up with a cover version of the song at the 2007 Super Bowl halftime show.

Prince’s decision to cover that song was surprising to many, but he delivered a fantastic performance. When Jaffee reminded Prince’s cover, Dave Grohl also confirmed him and revealed that for him, it is the best version of ‘Best of You.’ After hearing the cover, they thought as a band that they would never play it as well as Prince as they were highly impressed.

Dave Grohl’s words on Prince’s cover of ‘Best of You’:

“Prince did the best version of ‘Best of You’ that anyone has ever done. After watching him do it, I’m like, ‘We can’t play that song anymore’ because we can’t do it as well as Prince.
