Dave Grohl Reveals How His Mother Denied Pat Smear’s Rock Hall Request, ‘No F-cking Way’
Former Nirvana drummer and Foo Fighters founder Dave Grohl opened up about the band’s induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame during a recent appearance on the Howard Stern Show and revealed his mother’s reaction to the suggestion of the rhythm guitarist Pat Smear gave during the band’s prior appearance on the show.
As many of you might know, it was Dave Grohl who formed Foo Fighters as a solo project in 1994 after the disbandment of Nirvana due to the passing of the lead vocalist Kurt Cobain. The band managed to become one of the greatest rock bands over the course of their 12 years of a music career with 12 Grammy Awards, four Brit Awards, and many more in addition to selling over 12 million albums in the United States thanks to monumental records such as ‘The Colour and The Shape,’ ‘There is Nothing Left To Lose,’ ‘Wasting Light,’ and so many more.
It wasn’t a surprise when Foo Fighters were announced as one of the 2021 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees on February 10, 2021, in their first year of eligibility as it’s been 25 years since the band’s debut album has been released. Three months after, the band was announced as one of 6 performer inductees long with other legendary rockstars, Utopia icon Todd Rundgren and Ozzy Osbourne’s late guitarist Randy Rhoads.
During an appearance on the Howard Stern Show back in February, Foo Fighters’ members were asked if they have a name in their minds when it comes to the person who will induct them. Dave Grohl thought it would be a great idea to be inducted by the Police drummer Steward Copeland who inspired him for the debut album of the band while Pat Smear came up with the name of Grohl’s mother, Virginia Grohl.
When asked about the person who is going to induct Foo Fighters into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame during a recent appearance on the show, Dave Grohl stated that he doesn’t know any names yet, however, asked his mother about Pat Smear’s idea. Apparently, his mother didn’t like the thought of inducting her son’s band as her reaction was quite hilarious and negative in every possible way.
Here is what Dave Grohl said:
“I’m not sure yet. I think we’re still trying to figure that one out. We’ve talked about this when we were on the show a couple of months ago. Well, I remember Pat was saying it should be my mom, do you remember that? I went back to my mom and she was like, ‘No fucking way! I’m not inducting you guys to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.'”
