Dave Grohl Explains Why He Doesn’t Listen To Nirvana Albums Anymore

In an interview with The Howard Stern Show, Foo Fighters’ frontman Dave Grohl talked about his former band, Nirvana, and admitted that he found it quite difficult to listen to their old albums after the tragic loss of the band’s lead singer, Kurt Cobain.

In the late 1990s, the rock music scene witnessed a tragic death of a young rock star, Kurt Cobain. Nirvana frontman passed away on April 5, 1994, at the age of 27. The cause of his death was revealed as a self-inflicted gunshot to the head.

Starting his music career at the age of 17 as the drummer of Scream, Dave Grohl later joined Nirvana and played drums for the band until the passing of Cobain in 1994. Following his bandmate’s death, Grohl took a break from his music career since he was unsure about what to do with himself. After some time, Dave decided to start his one-man project, Foo Fighters, and recorded several songs in which he sang every vocal and played every instrument.

Recently, Dave Grohl and his bandmate both from Nirvana and Foo Fighters, Pam Smear joined an interview with The Howard Stern Show. During the conversation, they were asked whether they missed playing with Nirvana. Apparently, Pam, Krist Novoselic, and Dave get together and jam as if they were Nirvana from time to time, therefore they don’t miss playing together.

Here is what Pam Smear stated about missing playing with Nirvana:

“You know, every once in a while, I, and Krist, and Dave get together and we do play as if we’re Nirvana. So I don’t have to miss it, we do it. If we’re in the same town together or whatever, we’ll get together and jam.”

Furthermore, in another part of the conversation, Dave Grohl admitted that he is not listening to Nirvana records to recall the good old days. Grohl stated that hearing the Nirvana songs after losing his friend and bandmate was difficult for him sometimes. However, he also mentioned a lovely memory with his 11-year-old daughter, Harper, that made him feel good about the records they made. Apparently, when they were driving around Nirvana’s song ‘Come as You Are‘ came on the radio, and Harper started singing every word even though Dave has never played that song for her before.

Here is what Dave Grohl stated about the reason why he doesn’t listen to Nirvana records:

It’s hard sometimes. There are times where you’re driving in the car and a song will come on… Last night actually, my daughter Harper, she’s 11, she’s like, ‘Dad, can we just go drive around?’

She’s been stuck in the house for weeks. So we jump in the car, in my van, this cool old Ford van from the ’60s, and we just drove around Hollywood, looked at it, it was like eight o’clock at night, just driving around.

And ‘Come as You Are’ came on the radio, and she started singing. She’s saying every word! I’ve never played her that record, we don’t talk about Nirvana and stuff, and she was singing every word to the song! That to me, that feels good.”
