Dave Grohl Doesn’t Want To Participate In Nirvana Vs. Foo Fighters Debate

Former Nirvana drummer and current Foo Fighters frontman Dave Grohl was asked to pick his favorite between his bands during a recently unearthed appearance on Rock & Roll Road Trip with Sammy Hagar. The musician couldn’t answer that question while his bandmate Taylor Hawkins immediately exclaimed, ‘Nirvana.’

Dave Grohl rose to fame as the drummer of Nirvana, with whom he started working in 1990 after an incredibly successful audition. Thanks to their legendary breakthrough album, ‘Nevermind,’ which was released on September 24, 1991, Grohl became one of the most well-known drummers in rock music.

Following Kurt Cobain’s tragic death in April 1994, Grohl retreated as he was unsure where to go and what to do with himself. However, he found condolence in making music, so he got into the studio and recorded a fifteen-track demo for which he performed all of the instruments himself.

While several bands wanted him to be their drummer, Grohl had solo plans for his music career. Fortunately for him, the musician found himself with considerable major label interest. That’s when he founded Foo Fighters and has been working with the band successfully ever since, and they were even inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in their first year of eligibility.

Since Dave Grohl is known for his tenures with two major bands, nearly all of his fans compare the two. Moreover, they want to know what Grohl himself would choose if he were to compare the two. While interviewers may refrain from asking such a daring question to the rocker, an exception can be made when the question comes from a friend.

Dave Grohl joined Sammy Hagar on his show, Rock & Roll Road Trip, along with drummer Taylor Hawkins a while ago. The two band members were asked to pick between two options as part of Sammy Hagar’s game. Some questions were ‘The Beatles versus The Rolling Stones’ and ‘Metal versus Grunge.’

Inevitably, the former Van Halen frontman asked the duo to choose their favorite between Nirvana and Foo Fighters. While Taylor Hawkins instantly said it’s Nirvana for him with a humorous attitude, Dave Grohl had a hard time responding to the question.

The musician eventually said that he doesn’t want to answer the question, which makes sense considering that both bands have a special place in his heart and music career. As Grohl was beating around the bush, Taylor Hawkins and Sammy Hagar laughed at the rocker and enjoyed watching him suffer.

When asked to choose between Nirvana and Foo Fighters, Grohl said:

I’m pleading Fifth on that one. I’m going to plead the Fifth.”
