Blur singer Damon Albarn is pissed off at Rolling Stones for one single reason: The new album.

Speaking to Les Inrockuptibles in a new interview, Albarn shared his thoughts about the new Rolling Stones album, ‘Hackney Diamonds.’ The first thing he was pissed off about was not even the songs, it was the title. Apparently, the band did nothing to contribute to the city of Hackney, thus annoying the Blur singer. He explained:

“This really annoyed me. Because my family lives in Hackney, and the way they showed up at the Hackney Empire venue really pissed me off. They’ve never did a thing in Hackney, they’ve never played there, never contributed to anything. They just showed up. It’s all nonsense.”

There was also another reason for his annoyance: None of the members are from Hackney.

Albarn’s Thoughts on the Songs

Just like the way Albarn disliked the name of the new album for obvious reasons, he disliked the songs as well. One particular song and its music video, which featured the actress, Sydney Sweeney, made the rocker especially upset for the following reasons:

“And I listened to their new song [‘Angry’] and watched this horrible music video showing them at different stages of their lives on billboards. And this young woman objectified. What the hell is this? There’s something completely disconnected.”

Albarn Does Not Want to Have a Career Like Stones’

It seems that the Blur singer wants to lead his career to some other point rather than making it similar to the Stones’. Though the singer thinks the ‘Paint It, Black’ hitmakers always make similar songs, he also noted that he loves the idea of doing one thing only. But rather than positive, he had more negative thoughts to share:

“I did all sorts of things, whereas they’ve never been anything other than the Rolling Stones. I love the idea of devoting your life to one thing, in search of the sublime. But the truth is, they’ve became worse. Worse at persisting to stay themselves. That’s something I don’t understand. Making exactly the same music but not that good. There must be no joy in doing something like this.”

Considering the fact that Albarn played not only with Blur but with Gorillaz, Aftermath, and Real Lives, too, the reason behind his thoughts might be regarded as reasonable.
