Damiano David Says Maneskin Will Never Be Like Led Zeppelin, ‘I Am Not Robert Plant’
Måneskin’s Damiano David recently joined NME for an interview and revealed that he would want to be like Led Zeppelin frontman Robert Plant.
Due to the pandemic, Coachella didn’t take place for two years. However, with the restrictions eased, the festival returned between April 15 and 17. Coachella’s lineup mainly consisted of famous pop and solo acts, including Doja Cat, Billie Eilish, Harry Styles, The Weeknd, and Måneskin.
This year was Måneskin’s first Coachella performance, but they were one of the most attention-grabbing acts of the festival. Although they are considered a rock band, Måneskin also covered the pop queen Britney Spears’ song ‘Womanizer’ during their show. However, some rock music fans didn’t like their song choice.
In an interview with NME, Damiano David revealed whether they enjoy annoying these types of rock fans. David stated that he likes it too much, and it’s his guilty pleasure. He then argued it is pointless to expect them to be like Rolling Stones or Queen as they are a band of 20-year-olds who cannot mimic the ’70s or ’80s music.
Moreover, David also stated that it’s the year 2022, and Måneskin is trying to produce new and unique music which makes them satisfied and happy. According to the singer, he knows they can’t be like Led Zeppelin, or he can’t be Robert Plant, and although he wishes he was Plant, he tries to make his music.
Asked whether they like annoying old generations of rock music fans, Damiano David told NME the following:
“Yeah! Too much, maybe! It’s my guilty pleasure. It just makes no sense to expect us to behave like the Stones or Queen. It already happened and peaked. They f*cking created a legacy, and nobody can touch it. It’s so stupid and pointless to expect a band of 20-year-olds to replicate what was happening in the ’70s and ’80s.
We’re in f*cking 2022, so we’re just trying to do something new that makes us feel satisfied and happy. I really enjoy seeing people say, ‘Oh, they’re not Led Zeppelin.’ I know! We never will be. I’m not Robert Plant; I wish I were! I have to do my own sh*t.”
In another interview recently, Damiano David revealed that his rock god is Aerosmith’s Steven Tyler. As it seems, the singer also respects Robert Plant’s musicianship, and although he tries to find his sound, he is still influenced by the iconic rock stars.
