Måneskin recently had an interview with Audacy Music to discuss the growth of their career and shared their thoughts on being told they were the last great rock band by The New York Times. The frontman, Damiano David, explained what it means for the band and whether or not they see themselves as the last great rock band in the music industry. When asked about his thoughts on the article, David said:
“That was a big statement from The Times. I knew we were going there since the beginning. It’s hard to give an answer and don’t sound mean. Of course, we really like what’s written inside of the article, because it talks in a good way about us, and we’re flattered to read these words, but at the same time, this is our job, and we work in this industry.”
According to David, they already knew their career would come this far. The rocker shared the reaction they got from their audience for the article:
“So when we read the headline, we knew that all this thing was going to happen, and then some people were going to get offended, and the only thing that I don’t get is why some people are taking it with us. We didn’t write the article, and we do not agree we’re not the last rock band.”
He then shared his thoughts on people who are in the music industry and the rest that isn’t:
“But I think that the general audience is allowed to not understand this, but people that work in the industry should not [clicks tongue]. You can be smarter than this; I know that you can do it. I really believe in you, I trust you.”
The article has caused an argument among the fans, some of whom agree that the band is the last great rock band, and the rest disagree.
After winning the Eurovision 2021, the band gained enormous popularity and released many singles and a studio album since then. With their latest record, ‘Rush!’ the band aimed to reflect on the dark side of fame, the rush, and being unable to say no to most things.
