The 2025 Grammy Awards took place on February 2 at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California. One of the highlights of the event came when an interviewer on the red carpet mistook Spiritbox’s Courtney LaPlante for Poppy. LaPlante had fun with the moment, playing along.
In a video shared by a fan on X, the interviewer addressed the Spiritbox vocalist as Poppy and congratulated her on a significant nomination and mentioned a recent chat with Judas Priest.
She responded in a deadpan manner, saying, “I am Poppy, and I am really happy to be here nominated with Knocked Loose. I really hope we win.”
The interviewer then pointed out that this wasn’t Poppy’s first time being nominated for a Grammy. “No, I was actually nominated in, I believe, 2020,” LaPlante replied.
“Really happy to be here again, would love to take home the Grammy for Knocked Loose and myself because I would be the first woman to win this award,” she continued.
When asked how many women have been nominated for Best Metal Performance, the singer added, “I actually haven’t looked at that but I just always know that it’s time for one of us to win. I hope it’s me or Spiritbox and Courtney.”
Poppy later shared the video on Instagram along with some photos from the event, and LaPlante reposted it on her Stories.
Both LaPlante and Poppy were up for Best Metal Performance, making it their second time getting nominated. Spiritbox’s ‘Cellar Door’ was in the running, while Poppy was featured on Knocked Loose’s ‘Suffocate.’
In the end, neither took home the award. Gojira won Best Metal Performance for ‘Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça ira),’ which they played at the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics.
