Chris Daughtry recently shared an emotional farewell message to 3 Doors Down’s Brad Arnold. He addressed Arnold’s passing in a heartfelt statement posted on Instagram.

The tribute highlighted their professional relationship and personal friendship that developed over the years in the music industry.

“Brad Arnold. One of the first true ‘Rock stars’ I ever met when I was a rookie in this industry. Fresh off of Idol and into the throws of writing and recording my first album I had the opportunity to write with Brad,” Daughtry said. “I will never forget how kind and complimentary he was of my writing at the time (which I thought was rudimentary at best) and how much confidence that gave me going forward.”

Daughtry reflected on their continued friendship and touring experiences together.

“We would keep in touch and meet and events over the years and talk about doing shows together. Years later we would meet again to embark on a co-headline US tour that I will never forget,” he continued. “I laughed more on a daily basis on that tour than any other tour before or since. He was always telling us jokes in between fans coming into the meet and greet, so most of the time when fans would meet us I had tears in my eyes from laughing at Brad.”

The singer emphasized Arnold’s character and impact on everyone around him.

“He embodied kindness and respect with every person he came into contact with whether it was a fan, crew, local stage hand, random venue employees, it didn’t matter,” Daughtry said. “I will always cherish the moments I got to spend with him on stage and off stage. I’m gonna miss you brother. Rest easy. I love you.”

This tribute comes months after Daughtry replaced Three Doors Down on the Creed Tour 2025 due to Arnold’s diagnosis of Stage 4 clear cell renal carcinoma.

Arnold’s death marks the end of a remarkable career that began in his teenage years. His career shaped the rock music landscape of the early 2000s.

Wikipedia reported that Arnold co-founded 3 Doors Down in 1996 with Todd Harrell and Matt Roberts. He served as the band’s lead vocalist and primary songwriter. The band’s breakthrough came with their hit single “Kryptonite,” which Arnold wrote at age 15 during algebra class. This demonstrated his early songwriting talent that would later impress artists like Daughtry.

The song became a defining track of the early 2000s rock scene. It propelled 3 Doors Down to international fame and established Arnold as a prominent figure in alternative rock. The band’s success continued with multiple platinum albums and chart-topping singles throughout the following decades.

The Los Angeles Times revealed that Arnold publicly battled alcoholism, having started drinking in his teens. He attributed this addiction to the pressure of touring at age 20. This personal struggle added depth to his songwriting and connected him with fans who faced similar challenges.

Arnold’s health battle became public when he was diagnosed with Stage 4 kidney cancer that spread to his lungs in May 2025, as the Los Angeles Times documented. The diagnosis forced the band to cancel its summer tour. This marked the beginning of the end for the 47-year-old musician’s career. His death on Saturday came nine months after revealing his diagnosis. He left behind a legacy of rock anthems and the kind of genuine character that Daughtry remembered in his tribute.
