In a chat with The Garza Podcast, former Cannibal Corpse and current Six Feet Under vocalist Chris Barnes confronted frontman Corpsegrinder for ‘poking’ at him during a live performance. “I haven’t had him blocked. In fact, on Instagram, I follow him. And I don’t know if he follows me, but at one point I confronted him because I saw a video on YouTube where during a live performance, he’s poked at me pretty good.”

“And I wrote him ’cause I was, like, ‘Look, man, I never have said anything nasty about you at all. I don’t know why you’re doing this on stage about me.’ And I said, ‘We met and I thought everything was cool that one time. And listen, I’ll give you my phone number.’ I said, ‘If you wanna talk on the phone, I’ll give you my phone number. We can talk it over.’ And I sent him the link to the YouTube video, and magically it disappeared after that. But he never responded to me. He saw the message, ’cause it said ‘seen.’ But he wouldn’t talk to me about it,” Barnes continued.

The former frontman also acknowledged that he believes Corpsegrinder doesn’t sing the songs well. “I don’t think he sings my songs very well. I don’t. I think he walks through ’em. And on this [current Six Feet Under] tour, I poked back at him a little bit just because I felt like it was funny. But it was all in good humor.”

Earlier, Cannibal Corpse drummer Paul Mazurkiewicz compared the two singers and said that their split with Barnes ‘had to happen.’

“The early era, the ‘Barnes era’, what I guess everyone calls it, that’s the beginning of the band; that’s what obviously started us out and how we got going and all. And we were doing fairly well. We’re up the ladder here. We’re moving. We’re a force to be reckoned with now. So to change a singer in the middle of that seems a little crazy, but it had to happen,” he said in a chat with Pod Scum.

“You look back now, and we all obviously feel we’ve bettered the band; George is just a better vocalist overall. And we’ve moved forward. And here we are — Jeez, Barnes has been out of the band how long now? 25 years or so,” the drummer added.

Barnes fronted Cannibal Corpse from its beginning in 1988 until his exit in 1995, one year after the release of the band’s ‘The Bleeding’ album. After Barnes left Cannibal Corpse, he formed Six Feet Under. The current lineup also includes another former Cannibal Corpse member, Jack Owen.
