Bruce Hall’s wife Kimmie Sue Hall has offered a different perspective on REO Speedwagon’s breakup in a recent interview with Suspenders Unbuttoned Media.

Hall shared her view on the band’s split during a discussion about an upcoming benefit concert for cancer awareness. The event will feature REO Speedwagon members without Kevin Cronin.

“I don’t want to get too far into it, but Kevin Cronin, the lead singer, decided to go solo and leave REO Speedwagon,” Hall stated. “It was devastating, and I believe everything happens for a reason. And if he hadn’t done that, we wouldn’t have had to have this show. It wouldn’t have even been a thought. And if we can save one person’s life then maybe that’s the reason.”

Hall maintained an optimistic outlook while discussing the benefit concert.

“So not to say that, hopefully things can come back and maybe REO Speedwagon can be put together at a later time,” she added. “But anyway, we’re just we’re so grateful.”

Cronin presented a different version of events in his earlier statement on Facebook. “I never resigned from REO Speedwagon; I spent my adult life working to keep REO growing and relevant. Bruce and I just could not agree on a path forward. Neal took Bruce’s side … Dave, Bryan, Derek, Matt, and the entire REO road crew stuck with me. But I was outvoted 2-1 among the heritage band members. I had no choice but to make the heartbreaking choice to tour under Kevin Cronin Band starting in 2025.”

The current dispute represents a significant turning point for the legendary rock band. Their history spans nearly five decades of collaboration and success.

A report from WJRZ revealed that REO Speedwagon stopped touring on January 1, 2025. The band cited “irreconcilable differences” between Cronin and other members. The decision came after decades of Cronin’s leadership as the band’s frontman and primary creative force.

Fans may find some hope in recent developments. Sources have confirmed a special one-off show in Champaign, Illinois, scheduled for June 2025. The performance will reunite early members with Neal Doughty and Bruce Hall. Cronin will not participate.

Bruce Hall’s recent health challenges have added complexity to the situation. Star Tribune reported that Matt Bissonette temporarily replaced Hall due to a back injury. This medical issue reportedly contributed to the band’s internal conflicts.

Hall has expressed hope for the band’s future lineup. He envisions a return to the original configuration, including himself, Kevin Cronin, Dave Amato, Bryan Hitt, and Derek Hilland. This statement suggests the possibility of future reconciliation.
