In a new Guitar World issue, many rock and metal musicians have shared thoughts on the late Dimebag Darrell and what made him so special.
Among these names was Charlie Benante, the drummer for Anthrax and the current Pantera lineup. “Dime was continuously learning and developing skills and Ideas. He was so ahead of his time that guitarists are still blown away when they hear him for the first time. I don’t think anyone doubts that Dime was one of the last guitar players that revolutionized guitar playing and guitar style,” he said of the late guitarist.”
“For me, he was the rockstar guitar player. Besides Van Halen, it’s him,” he continued. “Dime’s personality was this larger-than-life party figure, but he was one of the warmest, generous and loving people I knew. That side of him comes out a lot in his playing too.”
Benante earlier shared his last moment with Dimebag Darrell. “Well… this was the last time I saw Dimebag Darrell, he was gone a few days later. I think the ironic thing is the song that we were playing. This night was so memorable and we had so much fun. I miss you man and I know you know this!! I remember feeling it the next day but it was worth it,” he wrote in the caption.
According to a commenter, he shares the same video every year on the same day. “I know you post this every year. And every year it makes me smile. Thank you for helping to remember and celebrate his life – he was one of a kind,” the user wrote under the post.
Pantera is set to play in Denmark tomorrow night.
